HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR HORSE

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to care for your own horse? This video shows you a little insight to what it is like on a daily basis.
From one teen to another, we know it can be hard to start something new especially when it seems like another world, but here is a bit of advice to get you started. To begin, meet Harry. Harry is a 14.2hh 15 year old Welsh Section D who we have owned for 2 and a half years. In this video you will see how we properly prepare Harry for riding by giving him a groom, making sure you brush off the area the saddle will go and pick up their hooves with a hoof pick to get any unwanted stones or mud out. click here to find out how to properly groom your horse in more detail! Next, make sure you ask an experienced adult or friend to help you tack up your horse and you're nearly ready to go.
Now you know what to do before you mount the horse, what do you do once you are on? Obviously we can't teach you to ride over the internet but here are a few tips to get you started. First you want to make sure you mount from the left hand side by putting your left foot in the stirrup and swing your other leg over the side. To hold the reins, make sure that your pinkie finger is underneath with your thumbs on top, and then imagine you are carrying a tray that you can't drop so you bend your elbows and keep your hands still.
Now you're ready to go! All you need now is a horse, ask a parent or sibling to search up riding schools in your area and book in a lesson.
Don't worry too much about getting all the gear for your first lesson but most stables will require you to wear some wellies or riding boots, a pair of gloves and leggings or jodhpurs, you can borrow a hat once you're there.
Good luck and we hope to see you at Badminton in a few years!
